The study explores the development, institutional role, and operational characteristics of community foundations as locally embedded philanthropic organizations. Community foundations mobilize financial and social resources to support local development and improve the quality of life within specific geographic communities.
Unlike many nonprofit organizations that focus on particular thematic issues, community foundations are defined primarily by their geographic focus and commitment to local wellbeing. Through grantmaking, partnerships, and civic leadership activities, they strengthen local philanthropy, encourage citizen engagement, and support sustainable community initiatives.
The study provides an overview of the community foundation model and examines how it operates across different national contexts.
The full version of the study will be available only in Georgian and will be uploaded to our website soon.
